Ireland vs England ODI Series
After an exciting five-Test series against India, England are gearing up for their white-ball leg of their home summer with three Metro Bank ODIs and three Vitality IT20 internationals against Ireland. The first ODI takes place at Headingley on Tuesday 2 September while others take place Trent Bridge and Seat Unique Stadium respectively.
Warwickshire all-rounder Jacob Bethell will become England Men captain for their next one-day international series and Hampshire fast bowler Sonny Baker were both added to strengthen the squad, after both showing their potential with England Lions this winter and Baker in both Vitality Blast and The Hundred tournaments.
Jofra Archer stands out in the squad, having recently made an ODI comeback after four years away. Archer had an outstanding five-Test series against India and will provide England with a significant edge against their ODI opponents.
Gareth Delany has earned his 100th cap for Ireland in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), while Curtis Campher and Harry Tector will make their ODI debuts against England. These matches will all take place under a T20 format with limited tickets still remaining for each match.
After much speculation and uncertainty over a week long series, it has finally been confirmed that Ireland vs England One Day Internationals will take place. According to an official statement issued by ECB, Ireland is fully prepared to host these matches and all preparations have already started for hosting these ODI matches; however, its cricket team will operate under tight protocols during these ODI games, with spectators given clear information before entering stadiums.
Ireland vs England T20 Series
Ireland will play England in a three-match T20 series at Malahide beginning September 17th. These sides have met only twice previously in this format (both World Cups 2010 and 2022) before this series; it will mark their first faceoff since 2019.
Irish fans should remain optimistic of victory even without several key players; wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Calitz earned his debut selection to Ireland for this series and will be worth keeping an eye out for. A 23-year old Canadian native, Calitz represented Canada at under-19 level before recently joining Munster Reds in Ireland Inter-Provincial Series play and Ireland Wolves on their tour to UAE this year.
England will be without several of their multi-format players who are being rested ahead of next winter’s Ashes series, including Captain Harry Brook. Jacob Bethell will serve as captain – making history by becoming Ireland’s youngest ever T20I captain!
Meanwhile, Darren Broom will make his T20I debut after being included in England’s 14-man squad. Broom has been impressive during domestic T20 tournaments this summer and led Red Rose to victory; now, he hopes to add to his wicket count in T20 format for England.
Ireland’s T20 squad for the series boasts some highly-rated players, led by Paul Stirling, along with experienced internationals Ross Adair, Fionn Hand and Josh Little are still going through injury rehabilitation programmes and will miss out; Gareth Delany and Curtis Campher will likely make appearances after excelling in the Emerald Challenge Series.
For the forthcoming series, limited tickets will be made available to the general public for purchase online via this link. These tickets are for both Metro Bank One-Day Internationals against South Africa and Vitality IT20 series against Ireland.
Ireland vs England Test Series
England have an opportunity to build momentum ahead of World Cup qualifiers in October by playing three T20 internationals and one ODI against Ireland, who they only previously faced twice – in 2010 as well as an unexpected upset win by Ireland at 2022 World Cup – when playing this format. England must ensure their batsmen and spinners make significant contributions, while Irish batsmen must do their part as well.
Since 1979, One Day Internationals (ODIs), or One-Off Internationals, are one-off 50 over matches that last 50 overs each. Winners are determined by which team scores more runs in a set number of innings; it has quickly become the most widely followed form of international cricket worldwide and often broadcast live worldwide.
Ireland are looking to build on their poor ODI performance against England at Malahide where they collapsed to 109-5 against an explosive English comeback. Ireland lost three early wickets including Jos Buttler and could never recover, with only Jordan Cox passing 20 runs from their top order batsman.
England were much more disciplined and controlled with their bowling attack, led by Liam Dawson (2-44) and Jamie Overton (2-17). Irish spinners Ross Adair and Gareth Delany struggled against England spinners but Cox made up ground by scoring 55 from 35 balls to keep Ireland at bay and give England hope of levelling off in this series.
Ervine fell trying to play a pull shot off Craig Young and was bowled by the leg-spinner with 16 required. Jos Buttler then fell lbw to Campher in the covers before Jacob Bethell, in his debut match as England captain – also his first defeat – soon got out when his knee hit off during a run up.
Tom Banton kept Ireland within reach with two late runs before Ben White’s incredible drive through long-on put them out of reach for good. Ireland came away victorious 2-1 despite having met only twice in this format before.
Ireland vs England T20I Series
This series, comprising three T20 matches in total, will mark England and Ireland’s first encounter under this format. Each side will aim to secure victory ahead of 2022 World Cup qualification; England are clear favourites despite having two of their scheduled games washed out due to rain – they are expected to sweep 3-0.
Even in spite of wet weather, England made an impressive start against Pakistan at Malahide on Sunday with six wickets taken and Jordan Cox making his presence known by hitting 55 off 35 balls for Oval Invincibles batsman Jordan Cox as they reached their target with 17 balls remaining.
England was particularly impressive during this victory as they managed to remain composed despite early wicket losses, with bowlers showing remarkable discipline to restrict Ireland’s run rate throughout its innings.
Irish batsmen had difficulty in opening partnerships. Gareth Delany came in and hit 48 off 29 balls from number seven position to help the hosts to a competitive total.
Ireland have struggled to maintain consistency over recent times. They can take some solace from knowing that most of their players are young, giving them hope of improvement over the course of this series. Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks and Adil Rashid will be significant challenges against Paul Stirling’s squad of experienced players such as Ross Adair, George Dockrell Curtis Campher and Gareth Delany – these young guns should provide formidable competition!
