1. Australia vs. New Zealand
Australia and New Zealand, two of the most populous islands on Earth, are both truly gorgeous countries. New Zealand boasts iconic flightless birds like the kiwi, kea, and tui as well as stunning alpine lakes, geothermal springs, lush forests, white-sand beaches, jaw-dropping waterfalls – it feels like one big Lord of the Rings film set there! Meanwhile Australia stands as an idyllic land of sun and sea where people are progressive, friendly, good-natured; flip flops are called “jandals” instead of “thongs”, and clear days can allow people to see both oceanic sides.
Australia experienced an early top-order wobble, falling to 24-3 and then 68-4 before Sutherland and Gardner combined for an outstanding 180-run partnership that quickly overturned England’s bowling attack and put Australia out of sight. Theirs is the second-highest fifth wicket stand ever witnessed in one-day internationals – an outstanding example of counterattacking batting at its finest!
Sutherland made her mark early by hitting a few fours over the infield before striking Dean’s offspinner for six to bring up an elegant fifty in 78 balls. England captain Tammy Beaumont struggled back, scoring an admirable 78 before eventually being stumped off off Bell on ball one of the final over.
Charlie Dean attempted to revive England’s innings with an aggressive 59 from 52 deliveries from Charlie Dean; but her efforts were ultimately in vain as England were overpowered by an outstanding Australian batting display. King’s 41 dot balls in her 10-over spell was the highest total ever achieved by any bowler during any World Cup innings and showed once more why she is one of cricket’s premier spinners – making rotation difficult for England and ultimately ending their chances of reaching their target easily.
2. Australia vs. Pakistan
Australia took an early lead in their three-match series against Pakistan after a dominating win at Lahore. Australia amassed a mammoth 248-4 total with Gardner and Sutherland’s huge 180* run fifth wicket stand as their key performance, smashing their target and winning with almost 10 overs to spare. This marked Australia’s highest target successfully chased against England Women in an ODI as well as their second highest in World Cups – this surpassing Jane Smit & Claire Taylor’s 188* fourth wicket stand which saw Australia beat England in 2000 Lincoln match by Australia by three months!
3. Australia vs. India
Australia women’s cricket team defeated India by 19 runs to take a 2-0 series lead. Sophie Molineux took two key wickets of Shreyanka Patil with an outstanding 3-23, and strong support from Ash Gardner and Sutherland allowed their side to reach 244-8 after 50 overs.
At 132 for 4 when Carey and Beth Mooney departed, the game looked to be in jeopardy until Gardner and Sutherland produced an outstanding fourth-wicket stand of 180 runs to secure victory – one of the greatest partnerships in World Cup history!
Both teams share a long and intense rivalry, which makes their matches among the most anticipated in international cricket. Australia and India have met in four ICC Champions Trophy finals and six World Cup matches; Australia leads 10-5 in terms of matches that ended up with results while India won three out of the four matches that went to result; however India have won both editions of ICC World Cup (twice!) as well as T20 World Cup (2023). Overall they have played each other 304 times with India winning 146 victories to Australia 95 times!
4. Australia vs. Sri Lanka
Before 2013, the Women’s Ashes was determined solely by Test matches, while from 2013 four (formerly six) points would be awarded for victories in Test matches and two for limited-overs matches.
Australia began playing two Tests and an ODI series against Sri Lanka beginning January 2025, winning their opening Test by an innings and 161 run margin at Galle International Stadium with many rain interruptions during gameplay.
Pathum Nissanka led Sri Lanka with an excellent 102 off just 52 balls, supported by Kusal Mendis and Pavan Rathnayake to chase down their target with six wickets to spare. Mitch Marsh couldn’t hide his disgust when congratulating Pathum. Mitch Starc also completed 700 international wickets on his 35th birthday; all Australian players and spectators celebrated him when this happened at the ground; his second hundred test match century came just days later!
5. Australia vs. England
Australia and England have long been fierce competitors in women’s cricket, boasting one of the longest and most heated rivalries ever witnessed in women’s cricket history. From world cup upsets and record chases, to passionate fan support that ensures every match becomes must-watch entertainment; from Derby 2017 to Navi Mumbai 2025 this rivalry defines modern women’s cricket while galvanizing two nations alike.
Australia once more demonstrated their depth as they breezed to victory against England in their final World Cup ODI at Indore. Despite seeing their top order falter and slip to 24-3 and 68-4 respectively, an incredible 180-run partnership between Annabel Sutherland and Ash Gardner secured their win and secured victory for Australia.
England batsmen struggled against Australia’s pace and spin bowlers, who made short work of the lower order batsmen on home soil. Charlie Dean and Alice Capsey offered some resistance with a partnership of 61 from 52 balls; however, such was never going to keep up with such a dominating Australian batting display.
Sri Lanka set an ODI World Cup total of 239 at Lincoln in 2013 before reaching 235 with their successful chase at Lord’s in 2014. Their score also marked the largest margin of victory ever achieved during this tournament; four points (previously six) are awarded for an individual Test win and two for every winner of a limited-overs game; until 2013 exclusively Test matches determined the series; since 2013 this competition has expanded into one-day and Twenty20 internationals, with a trophy awarded to the winning team and a plaque marking its establishment located at Lord’s.
